On the initiative of the Chairman of the Peru-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Member of the Peruvian Congress, Jose Enrique Ore, the Congress adopted a statement on September 27, which is recognized as Memorial Day.
The Embassy of our country in Mexico has stated that in 2020, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan took measures to prevent new military aggression by Armenia against our nation and to ensure the safety of the civilian population. It is emphasized that Armenia was responsible for the destruction of national, cultural, and religious heritage, the commission of war crimes, the laying of landmines, and the perpetration of urbicide and ecocide. Notably, Azerbaijan reclaimed its internationally recognized territories from occupation, thereby restoring its territorial integrity and creating conditions for the safe and dignified return of nearly one million Azerbaijani IDPs to their homes.
The statement recognizes September 27 as Remembrance Day, as declared by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. It deeply mourns the loss of soldiers and officers who heroically sacrificed their lives during the 44-day Patriotic War. This war marked the beginning of a new era in the region, altered the prevailing realities, and restored international justice.
In closing, the statement extends condolences to the people of Azerbaijan and pays deep respect to the memory of all the martyrs who laid down their lives in the struggle for the freedom of their homeland.
