Respect for human rights is a fundamental indicator of societal democracy.
The Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, adopted on November 12, 1995, underscores the provision of human rights and freedoms as the state's highest objective, with approximately one-third of its content dedicated directly to their establishment and protection.
Significant strides towards securing human rights and freedoms in independent Azerbaijan have been achieved through extensive reforms initiated by National Leader Heydar Aliyev. President Ilham Aliyev, continuing this policy successfully, designated June 18 as "Human Rights Day" in Azerbaijan through a presidential decree issued on June 18, 2007. This designation reflects our independent state's commitment to upholding human rights.
In recent years, comprehensive reforms across all sectors in our country have further enhanced mechanisms for the robust protection of human rights and freedoms. Notably, intellectual property rights are considered fundamental, with copyright specifically recognized as a crucial component of cultural rights.
