"Umid" HSSC continues provision of assistance to IDP schools beginning from January' 2003. During this period, initial assessment was conducted; meetings were arranged with schools' principals and parents in IDP schools situated in Sumgait and its surroundings. Community relations, attitude to the community fund, parent-teacher relations were analyzed during meetings.
For the purpose of identification of schools' needs, survey was conducted with school principals, teachers, schoolchildren and parents of 12 IDP schools situated in Sumgait and surrounding areas.
Schools were selected based on the following selection criteria:
4 schools (Lachin region Minkend rural secondary school, Jabrayil region Suleymanli rural secondary school, Fuzuli region secondary school #7 and Zangilan region secondary school #11) were selected based on above-mentioned selection criteria.
Vocational training
"Umid" HSSC involves IDP youth populated in Sumgait in vocational training through "apprenticeship" method in 2003 in order to help IDP youth to acquire vocational skills, find jobs for themselves or start up their businesses in future. For this purpose, "Umid" HSSC conducted a survey among 294 youth of 15 communities in Sumgait. 15-27 years old youth were covered by the survey.
Initial selection was conducted in communities with the participation of Community Committees in March.
According to conversations with the youth, they are willing to receive photo-video, dress-maker, repair of mobile phones, hammersmith- painter, barber and hair-dresser, carpet-making trainings. Workshops on above professions were explored.
Logistical support to UNHCR programs in Azerbaijan
UNHCR approached to the Government of Azerbaijan (GoA) for provision of needs for warm clothes and quilts in the regions since the weather was cold and it snowed heavily in the beginning of January. Upon reaching an agreement, "Umid" HSSC provided 1290 families of Sabirabad, Beylagan, Davachi, Ismayilli and Shaki regions with 4840 quilts and 10339 warm clothes.
Beginning from January, "Umid" HSSC has conducted discussions with some local and international organizations on the division of children gifts. In comparison with previous years, distribution of relief items is considered to be conducted through communities in 2003. At first, target groups and areas were selected for distribution of relief items. Children gifts were distributed by 26 communities in Sumgait. Besides it, children gifts were distributed in Fuzuli and Beylagan regions through 4 communities, as well as in Kurdamir region
Please note that children gifts and other relief items are sent by UK-based organizations of "Samaritan's Purse" and "Lutheran World Relief".
Her husband died in Chamanli village of Agdam region in 1994. She is unemployed and keeps her family through money that she receives for her son. She lives together with son in the Hostel # 109, and was provided with no assistance by any organization so far.
Nizami is a pupil of 5th form. He liked very much a copy-book inside of the children gift. He wishes to write his dreams on this copy-book. His best wish is to be happy.
