In Geneva, representatives from the UN Women's Office and the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations met.
Aygun
Aliyeva, the Agency's executive director, spoke about the involvement
of women in Azerbaijani society and shared information about the grant
competitions the organization had just launched. She said that the
Agency regularly provides financial assistance in awareness-raising on
the protection of women's rights, providing socio-psychological support
to women and children suffering from war, prevention of early marriages,
protection of gender equality, initiatives in the direction of
combating violence, girls' truancy and other related topics.
Later,
Aygun Aliyeva discussed the potential for working with UN Women to
further the protection of gender equality, which is the fifth goal of
the Sustainable Development Goals.
In welcoming the guests, Adriana
Giraldo, Deputy Chairperson of the UN Women's Organization, endorsed the
Agency's actions and stressed the significance of strengthening
collaboration between the institutions of the organization and the civil
society organizations active in Azerbaijan in these areas.
