A presentation ceremony of the project titled "IDP Community Mobilization and Capacity Development in Mingachevir, Goranboy, and Yevlakh,” which is funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and carried out by "Umid” Support to Social Development Public Union ("Umid” SSD PU), was held in Mingachevir on May 11, 2023. The members of the project team of "Umid” SSD PU, officials of Executive powers of Yevlakh district and Mingachevir city, members of Community Development Councils of the target communities, local non-governmental organizations, Mingachevir "ASAN Vocation” Education Center, Career and Development Center of Mingachevir State University, representatives from UNHCR and the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) took part in the event (35 people: 12 women, 23 men).
Rasim Guliyev, Program Director of "Umid” SSD PU, summarized the event’s purpose and shared his thoughts with the attendees on the necessity of the project that is being carried out.
Aflatun Verdiyev, Regional Coordinator of "Umid” SSD PU, delivered a presentation on the "IDP Community Mobilization and Capacity Development” project’s objectives, main tasks, activities, and outcomes during the ceremony.
Discussions about the project were held in general as the event continued. The speakers discussed the significance of the project that was carried out, the use of strategies that can help mobilize the target IDP communities, the guiding of young people toward most in-demand and prospective careers, etc., and put up ideas.
The main objectives of the "IDP Community Mobilization and Capacity Development in Mingachevir, Goranboy, and Yevlakh” project, which has been implemented since February of this year, are to strengthen the capacity of existing IDP communities to increase their resilience and prepare them to cope with the challenges of the forthcoming return process, inter alia, through Participatory Community Development and Apprenticeship methods.
