With the backing of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in collaboration with the Azerbaijan-Turkey Women's Society, the Azerbaijan-Turkey House, and with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Spain, Madrid hosted the European Forum commemorating the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, titled 'Return to Western Azerbaijan at the International Level.' Distinguished attendees at the forum included representatives from the diplomatic corps in Madrid, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and academic circles.
Key figures who delivered speeches and engaged in extensive discussions during the event included Ramiz Hasanov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra; Nüket Küçükel Ezberci, the Turkish Ambassador to Spain; Richard Charnetsky, Member of the European Parliament; Sabir Rustamkhanli, Member of Parliament and Co-chairman of the World Congress of Azerbaijanis; Damjan Krnjevic Misković, former special adviser to the President of the Republic of Serbia; Tanzila Rustamkhanli, representative of Azerbaijan; Samuel Doveri Westerbay, Executive Director of the European Neighborhood Council; and various other distinguished individuals. They addressed the audience and shared their insights on the event's theme.
Following these enlightening speeches, the forum organized panel discussions. The first panel, titled 'The European Approach to the Refugee Problem: Challenges and Potential Solutions through International Cooperation,' was led by Damjan Krnjevic Miskovic, the Director of Political Research, Analysis, and Publications at the Institute of Diplomacy. The second panel, 'Azerbaijan's Experience with Forced Deportation and Refugees: Returning to Western Azerbaijan,' was moderated by Hasan Öztürk, the Editor-in-Chief of Turkey's 'Ülke TV' broadcasting company.
The European Forum: 'Return to West Azerbaijan at the International Level' Held in Spain
The forum concluded with a call to the international community on behalf of Azerbaijani refugees. Additionally, a photo exhibition showcasing the material and cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan was on display during the event. To treat the Spanish guests, a selection of Azerbaijani cuisine delights was also presented.
