Objective: "Providing individual loans to community members through Community Centers

The project of "Formation of Community Committees and providing individual loans to community members through these Committees" has been being implemented since July 01' 2002. Beginning from July, meetings began to be arranged in areas densely populated by IDPs and project principles were clarified. Hostel situated in 42^nd district was selected, and discussions were arranged with members of "Litsey" Community Committee.

"Intention Protocol" on future cooperation was signed with the Community Committee. Entrepreneurship opportunity of community members were analyzed and needs were assessed. Regulations of "Litsey" Community Committee on the implementation of economic projects was developed and discussed. 38 members of the community received the loan to extend their businesses.

Meetings were conducted in hostel # 2 of Chemical Plant, hostel # 1of "BTZ" Plant and with IDPs populated in uncompleted building in "Khimstroy" district. Taking into consideration the need of formation of Community Committee in these areas, the Community Committee members consisted of 5 persons were selected through voting. Communities conducted their first meeting and established the committees "Birlik", "Araz" and "Ergunesh". 34 members of "Birlik" Committee, 32 members of "Araz" and 31 members of "Ergunesh" Community received a loan to extend their businesses.

Objective: "Economic support to 'Saving & Credit' groups

In order to identify the impact of "Saving and Credit" project to the beneficiaries, survey was conducted in July of 2002. Survey covered members of groups established at least one year ago. 100 group members were involved in the survey and their answers were generalized and submitted to the donor.

The 2^nd stage of the project launched on July 1' 2002, taking into consideration the interest of IDPs populated in Sumgait in the project and the donor's (DRC) approval to extend the project. New initiative groups were planned to be formed and 24-28 groups were considered to be provided with the loan in the 2^nd stage. In the beginning of July, advertisements were put up in order to launch the 2^nd stage of the project, and meetings were conducted in the office and Community Centers. 36 new initiative groups were registered in accordance with project principles. 2-month activity of groups were analyzed by working team, 29 groups were selected based on selection criteria, and it was decided to support them financially, based on their good activity. Relevant contracts were signed with them.

Consultations on the development of business and entrepreneurship are going on in all community centers and the office in accordance with project's work plan. 21 members of new groups approached with various questions and received consultations.

28 members of new groups were involved in one-day training on business and entrepreneurship development in Sumgait Training Center on the topic of "Cash book, its importance and stock-keeping rules" based on UMID's modules in October.

Participants were provided with information on current stock-keeping system, consultations on cash-box stock keeping and revolving of the money, and training materials were distributed to the participants.
