Community Development

The project Education for Development implemented in Sumgait under support of UNHCR was continued.

The goal of the project is improvement of education conditions and increase of IDP youth’s vocational skills.

In communities Minkend, Safyan and Araz which were supported in community development field, and in newly selected Imanlilar, Fizuli communities the following measures have been taken in direction of capacity building of community members:

  • Community meetings -160
  • Round Tables -  60
  • Coordination meetings - 4
  • Trainings - 9

The main purpose of the community meetings held in schools was to discuss problems in education and parameters of community contributions. 

During round tables community contributions, future activity directions of CATs were determined, and activity plans, ensuring participation of communities in construction-restoration works, community maps and passports were prepared.

Apprenticeship courses

In 6 October, 2004 in Sumgayit there was held a seminar with the purpose of improvement of theoretical and practical knowledge taught to

Apprentices involved in vocational trainings. The seminar was attended by 22 participants including masters, apprentices of 11 apprenticeship fields and these apprentices’ parents.

The parents attending the seminar marked great importance of vocational courses in education and maturing, capacity building and employment of youth.

45 apprentices finished fields chosen by themselves (hairdressing and barbering, dressmaking, photo-video, mobile telephone repair, motor repairs, hammer smith and dyer works, beautician, refrigerator repair ) acquiring new skills and relevant certificates and equipments.

Besides, 16 youth having got vocational skills, were involved in computer courses and acquired initial skills on this field.

21 youth were involved in trainings on subject of Importance of marketing in modern business activity and provided with initial information on small business and marketing.

Beginning from February 30 youth acquired new skills on fields chosen by themselves and got relevant certificates and equipment for their initial activities by apprenticeship method within the project Support and care to asylum-seekers/refugees in Azerbaijan under financial support of UNHCR. 16 out of them were involved in business trainings.
