To improve social-economic condition of vulnerable people have always been in the focus of the "Umid” SSD’s activity. "Umid” SSD has continued its activity in 70 rural, semi-urban and urban communities where a total of 727 events were organized and number of beneficiaries comprised 92825 persons. Brief outline of Umid’s activity directions for 2010 were summarized as follows:

  1. Reinforce Community and individual capacities/entrepreneurship:It was mainstream objectives of "Community micro-projects Management” and "Community based Support to Producers of Dairy Products» projects. Umid has reached this objective through classic approaches (training and consultation), as well as innovative methods/tools (mentoring, apprenticeship) A total of 538 events were arranged and 9845 beneficiaries were reported.
  2. Expand socio-economic and physical infrastructure:Variety of activities were carried out in this direction in 39 communities located through BTC pipeline; 18 community micro-projects were completed; A total of 543.000AZN was allocated for the micro-projects implementation (of this, 354.000AZN-contribution of BP& partners, 189.000AZN-contribution of community and local business and municipality); community roads of 22 km length was repaired, irrigation water lines of 7 km installed, construction works was completed in the area of13000 m2. Land plot for MCP installation in 3 communities were agreed and relevant documentation issues were implemented. 28 000 community members directly benefited from this project.
  3. Income generation and employment/entrepreneurship opportunities expansion:Bunch of projects including "Youth Employment and economic Opportunities expansion Initiative along the Baku corridor”, "Economic Opportunities Expansion and Community Skills Development”, etc enabled target communities to get employed and increase their income generation capabilities via enhancing business skills and the capacities of apprentices, trade masters and entrepreneurs to start their jobs. As a result of implementation of the projects, monthly incomes of direct (1180 community members) and indirect (5000 persons) beneficiaries increased by 400AZN; business enterprises’ income increased by 20%.
  4. Logistics and vocational opportunities expansion:To improve living condition of refugees and asylum seekers and IDPs have always been in the focus of the projects being implemented by Umid under financial support of UNCHR. Education and income generation needs of IDPs inhabited in Baku, Sumgait cities and 3 settlements of Fizuli region have been addressed. As the result of the projects implementation, 18 LNGOs and 58 000 refugees and IDPs made profit.
